Trains are great to travel between Ukrainian cities. It is much cheaper than by air and you can see the country “from within». Railways link Kiev to Russia, Hungary, Poland, to southern and western parts of the country. The railway station of Kiev is situated close to the very center of the city, near the Vokzalnaya metro station. There are three types of compartment for long-distance trips: first class with two berths, second class compartments ( four berths) and the so-called platskartniy ( carriage with numbered reserved seats, with 6 berths).

Commuter trains, known as “elektrichki”, are aimed to suburban trips. Such trains are not so comfortable and have simple wooden benches.
